The Compass about Management Consulting
Compass is the 360º questionnaire that provides feedback on power and
influence skills. Understanding our sources of power and current use of
influence is particularly important when we have to work cross-functionally
and on project teams with others who have competing priorities.
The Compas workshop helps people at all levels build trust, credibility, and cooperation in order to get the work done.
Specifically, Compass feedback helps participants:
- Identify the people whose commitment is needed to achieve their
key business challenges
- Gain the commitment of these people to plans and proposals
- Understand how people perceive them
- Create an environment of support and collaboration
- Have open, constructive discussions and meetings
Participants complete a self-report and distribute up to ten questionnaires
to people with whom they work: their colleagues across the organization,
their bosses, and their direct reports. The Compas feedback report helps
people understand their sources of power and how often they use different
influence tactics, and provides recommendations for increasing their
effectiveness.
Compass workshops-which range from a half-day to two-days-help people translate their feedback into action. Workshops help participants interpret their feedback and build influence skills by developing plans for gaining commitment, participating in skillbuilding activities, and receiving coaching from certified facilitators.
These workshops can be customized to reflect an organization's culture, environment, and goals-whether they require building people's negotiating and selling skills or improving the effectiveness of cross-functional teams. Customized case studies are used to relate workshop issues to those people contend with day to day.
